This Engineering field first became a recognizable profession in the late 19th century when the electrical power supply and electrical telegraph become commercialized. This Electrical Engineering deals with the application and study of electronics, electricity, and electromagnetism. It covers many subtopics like control systems, telecommunication, power electronics and signal processing.
In the year 2004, the Electrical and Electronics department was started in the CIT College, with the 60 students of input. At present, the department offers engineering degree program in Electrical and Electronics. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories which include High Voltage Lab, Relay Lab, Circuits and simulation Lab, Control System Lab, Machines Lab, Power System Simulation Lab, and Microcontroller Lab.
The department organized technical talks by the industrial experts and academic experts. The department conducts a one-day workshop on the topic renewable energy sources in association with KCTU and DIC. The department organizes industrial visits to Varahi and Sharavathi Hydropower plant to the final year students and educational visit to 220kv substation Nittur for the 6th-semester students. Industrial visits impart practical knowledge to the students. Recently final year students have visited Bellary Thermal Power station, and Karnataka VidyuthKarkane.
