Course Details

In the year 2013 PG course on “Thermal Power Engineering” is established with 24 students of input. The mechanical engineering discipline is developed from the application and principles of materials science and physics. As the process and energy sector in India is in a lead, there is a need for the engineers with strong thermal and fluid science background who are capable of carrying out conceptual design. The program impart knowledge to the students with an aim to equip students to perform work related to transient heat transfer, linear and non-linear steady state, multi-phase flows, flow through porous media, open channel flow, steady and unsteady fluid flow, fluid-structure interactions for the estimation of pressure loads and thermal load, and field analysis. For the analysis and designing of equipment like accessories, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, flow separators, rotor stator interactions, pumps, propellers, inlet manifolds, volutes, and turbo chargers etc., the required numerical simulations and techniques are provided by this program. This course imparts knowledge to the students with techniques like combustion diagnostics, practical characterization and flow visualization and other recent imaging skills used in the thermal research field.
