Graduate Management Admission Test
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT ) is a computer adaptive test (CAT) intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. The GMAT exam is a computer adaptive test and not a computer based test, which means that the candidate will get one question at a time and depending on the accuracy of the previous answer, the difficulty level of the next question will be ascertained. The average scores required for universities abroad varies; top tier universities require at least 710, while middle tier universities accept 600.
The GMAT test lasts 3 hours and 30 minutes, excluding two optional 8-minute breaks that you can choose to take between certain sections. The GMAT exam pattern consists of mainly four sections which will test the candidate's’ abilities on various parameters. These are – Writing, Reasoning, Verbal and Quantitative skills. The GMAT exam will be conducted in a time span of 3 hours and 30 minutes. GMAT scores are given with an increment of 10 point for example: 550, 560, 570 etc. In India, the GMAT exam is accepted by the 100 B-schools and the test are conducted in 17 cities through 20 exam centres in India. |The GMAT Quantitative section measures the ability to reason quantitatively, solve quantitative problems, and interpret graphic data. Two types of multiple-choice questions are used in the Quantitative section:
1. Problem solving
2. Data sufficiency
Problem solving and data sufficiency questions are intermingled throughout the Quantitative section. Both types of questions require basic knowledge of:
• Elementary algebra
• Commonly known concepts of geometry
|The GMAT Verbal section measures the ability to read and comprehend written material, to reason and evaluate arguments, and to correct written material to conform to standard written English. Because the Verbal section includes reading sections from several different content areas, you may be generally familiar with some of the material; however, neither the reading passages nor the questions assume detailed knowledge of the topics discussed. Three types of multiple-choice questions are used in the Verbal section:
1. Reading comprehension
2. Critical reasoning
3. Sentence correction
|Integrated Reasoning Section|
|The Integrated Reasoning section measures your ability to understand and evaluate multiple sources and types of information - graphic, numeric, and verbal. You have to use both quantitative and verbal reasoning to solve complex and multiple problems that are related to one another. Four types of questions are used in the Integrated Reasoning section:
1. Multi-Source Reasoning
2. Table Analysis
3. Graphics Interpretation
4. Two-Part Analysis
You have access to an online calculator with basic functions for the Integrated Reasoning section, but the calculator is not available on the Quantitative section.
|Analytical Writing Assessment|
|The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) consists of one 30-minute writing task of Analysis of an Argument. The AWA measures your ability to think critically, communicate your ideas, and formulate an appropriate and constructive critique. You have to type your essay on a computer keyboard|
Graduate Management Admission Test Notification
Interested candidates who wish to apply for GMAT Registration can apply for the exam anytime as the registration will be available all the time in a period of 12 months. The candidates need to register themselves by simply visiting the official website of GMAT. This is advantageous for the candidate that he/she can schedule an appointment for the exam by simply filling the examination date, examination centre, and the timings of the test according to their flexibility. The candidate applying for the test should know that he/she can go for the test only one time within a month and not more than 5 times within a complete 1 year.
Eligibility for Graduate Management Admission Test
The Graduate Management Admission Council has not set any eligibility criteria for GMAT aspirants. Hence, a candidate is not required to fulfil any particular GMAT eligibility criteria to apply for GMAT test. However, since GMAT is a postgraduate level test, test takers are ideally required to have an undergraduate degree to cross further levels of the selection process set up by the institute they apply to. GMAT eligibility criteria may vary from institute to institute but that is applicable only after the candidate has cleared GMAT Test. Further, GMAT eligibility criteria in management institutes is, generally, limited to the GMAT score of the candidate.T he candidate can be from any country or region and can be a student of any discipline. It is, however, preferred if the candidate is, at least, 18 years of age. According to the GMAT eligibility criteria, if you are between 13 and 17 years old, you must get permission from a parent or legal guardian to appear for GMAT. You may take the exam no more than five times within a 12-month period. There are no fixed official GMAT dates, you can choose any date according to your convenience and availability. In case you need to retake the GMAT exam you can do so after 16 days. The candidate can take or retake the GMAT exam after every 16 days. You can appear for the exam a maximum of five times in a year. Candidate must wait at least 16 days after you take the exam before you can take it again. Candidate must wait at least five years if you have previously achieved a perfect total score of 800. Candidate must follow all of the registration and testing rules.
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT ) Application
The registration for GMAT 2016 can be done at any time as the application form is available in the official website of GMAT all the time. The candidates can apply for the entrance exam of GMAT online, phone, postal or fax through the official portal of the GMAT. Interested applicants can schedule his/her appointment for the test by simply selecting the examination centre, day of the test and the timings of the test. According to their flexibility, the candidate can choose the examination and schedule the appointment for the test. The details regarding the GMAT application fee and the application procedure is described below:
Applying candidates have to pay the fee of USD 250 for the registration of GMAT and the applicants can pay the application fee through online and offline as well.
For online applicants, credit/debit card (through VISA/Master/American Express/JCB) facility is available and for offline mode applicants, the payment for registration of GMAT can be done through by Cashier’s check, Money orders, and Personal checks. Offline mode candidates please note it down that the offline payment must be received by the VUE-GMAT at least before the 10 days of the examination appointment.
How to Apply
Click on the tab shown GMAT exam in the authorized official portal of GMAC for applying to GMAT and thereafter select the option ‘Scheduling an Exam’.
If you are a new user and not registered before then you have to register yourself, click on register for GMAT.
Now proceed towards the registration and enter your all the necessary information followed by your academic/personal details.
Enter professional details like where you want to take admission for MBA, your specializations etc.
As far as you complete your registration process, you have to move towards the GMAT Exam Scheduling section Click on the option ‘schedule a GMAT appointment’ and select the 3 test centres according to your flexibility.
After the selection of the particular test centre, the candidates will be provided with the available upcoming examination dates and the slot of the test centre.
Now make the payment of USD 250 in order to complete the application procedure of GMAT
