Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test
Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) is conducted for admission to MBA courses in the state of Tamil Nadu. TANCET will be conducted by Anna University, Chennai, on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. TANCET scores are accepted by University Departments, University Colleges of Engineering, Regional Centres of Anna University, Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, Arts & Science Colleges and Self-financing Colleges (Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges including stand-alone Institutions) in Tamil Nadu. Some universities and self- financing engineering colleges also accept TANCET scores. Last year, a total of 18451 candidates registered for TANCET MBA exam.
TANCET MBA will be a two-hour long entrance test. The exam will have 100 questions. Candidates have to attempt the following five sections:
- 1. Analysis of Business Situations
- 2. Reading Comprehension
- 3. Quantitative Ability
- 4. Data Sufficiency
- 5. English Usage
There’s one mark for every correct answer and negative marking of 1/3 for every wrong answer. There are four alternative answers for each question.
Candidates need to choose the correct answer and shade corresponding small open box provided for that question in the answer sheet with a black ball point pen only.

Eligibility for Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test
Here’s the eligibility criteria for TANCET MBA:
Candidates need to have a recognised Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration and obtained at least 50% (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination.
- 10+2+3 years pattern (or)
- 10+3 years Diploma +3 years pattern (or)
- BE/BTech./B.Arch./B.Pharm. (or)
- 10+2+AMIE* (or) 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE.*

TNCET Application Process
There’s just one application form. The form is common for all entrance tests (M.C.A. M.B.A. M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan.) If candidates want to apply to more than one programme, one needs to pay the fees (less fees for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) for each programme.
Application Procedure Candidates can opt to register for the entrance test only through online mode:

Candidates can also register through internet by logging on to the official website. The filled in downloaded application along with the required demand draft and photocopies of certificates need to be sent to The Secretary, TANCET, Centre for Entrance Examinations, Anna University, Chennai – 600 025.
Demand Drafts should be drawn in favour of ‘The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University, Chennai’ payable at Chennai, obtained from any Nationalised bank.
The dates for downloading of hall ticket will be announced soon by the officials. Candidates applying for TANCET via internet can download their hall tickets from the official website, when available. The Registration Number assigned in the Hall Ticket needs to be entered at the appropriate place in the admission application form to be filed with the respective admitting authority later. If any eligible candidate does not receive the Hall Ticket, he/she can get a duplicate hall ticket from the enquiry office. If the hall ticket is lost after the test, a duplicate hall ticket can be obtained on payment of Rs 100 in the form of a Demand Draft.
